Hepatitis B is a viral infection that is spread through blood and bodily fluids, while it can clear up on it's own for most people it may lead to chronic hepatitis B infection which can leave individuals with serious liver damage, cirrhosis and a higher risk for liver cancer.
It can be spread from unprotected sex, needle sharing, from mother to baby transmission, unsterilised medical equipment and sharing razors and hygiene equipment. In some occasions hepatitis B does not come with symptoms so it's important to get vaccinated if you are putting yourself at risk.
The vaccine can be given as an accelerated schedule if there is already an exposure risk or you are travelling, a pharmacist will be able to talk you through your vaccine schedule with you.
