Typhoid vaccine is recommended for travellers visiting low-income areas of the world where food and water sanitation are not widely accessible. The typhoid vaccine is available as 3 capsules that you take over 5 days, or a vaccine; both provide you with protection against typhoid for 3 years.

For the oral capsule vaccine this is available from 5 years and older, this is a live vaccine so this is not recommended for people who are immunocompromised (i.e. HIV, oral steroid medications, organ transplant medications) and pregnant individuals. If you are taking malaria medication let your pharmacist know as this may affect your oral typhoid dose. This should be ideally given 2 weeks before travel to ensure protection.

For the vaccine injection this is available from 2 years and older and is inactivated meaning it is safe for pregnant or immunocompromised individuals. You will need to take this 2 weeks before travel to ensure protection.

To book an appointment you can book an appointment online, or call us, or visit in-store. If you are unsure if this vaccine is needed for your travels you can enquire in-store with a pharmacist or ring us.
