This is a private service from your Pharmacist for one dose of Tick Borne Encephalitis vaccine. A full course is 3 doses, and there is an accelerated dose schedule for those who are travelling.
Tick-borne encephalitis is a viral condition spread from tick bites. Ticks containing this virus can be found in most of Europe (including the UK), Russia and parts of China and Japan.
Ticks live in woodlands and grassy areas, but they can also be found in some parks and gardens.
In the UK, only a very small number of ticks carry the TBE virus. Even if you're bitten by a tick, the risk of getting seriously ill is very low.
TBE can also be spread through raw (unpasteurised) milk or dairy foods.
It is ideal to have this vaccine if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors during your trip or you have an occupational risk that means you are at a higher risk to getting bitten by ticks (such as farmers, forestry workers, scouts, soldiers).
This vaccine can be taken from 1 years old & over and a booster is recommended every 3 years from their first dose if there is still a risk.
If you are travelling or require a quicker protection we do offer the accelerated schedule where dose 1 is 2 weeks apart from dose 2, dose 3 can be given 5-12 months after your second dose.
